Maths Performance Task - Personal Reflection

Statistics mainly cover the collection of data, gathering them together and then sorting them out and finally presenting the data in charts or graphs or diagrams.
Chapter 16 is Data Handling. We learnt to handle data (as the name implies) and classify them into different charts or graphs or diagrams such as pie charts, bar graphs, histograms, stem and leaf diagrams, pictograms, dot diagrams, and many more. I also learned when we should use different types of representing graphs, charts or diagrams to represent different types of data. For example, Pie chart should only be used in situations where there is a whole and the whole is being divided into different sections.  Pictograms are represented in pictures so it may be quite tedious to make.
Stem and Leaf Diagrams are the easiest to understand as it is easy to see all the numbers at once. It is also easy to tell the mean, median and mode from the diagram just by looking at it. I also learned about some differences about different diagrams. Histograms and Bar graphs may seem the same, but the main difference is that the bars of histograms are attached together while the bars of bar graphs are separated.
Statistics are used in real life in situations like our maths e learning task. We were supposed to go to our nearest bus stop and collect data which would be the timings of each bus that comes and then compare them with the scheduled times to see whether the buses in Singapore are really as punctual as they say it is. Other times we have to just collect data and represent them in graphs.
Statistics can benefit us by teaching us how to gather data and then representing them on graphs to share with other people about our findings and possibly benefitting them in the process. Statistics are also used everyday in the working lives of adults to help them improve their working procedure as well as to speed up on time taken to read continuous
data. Statistics are also important when conducting surveys and projects about people so as to be able to find out about what the people you are surveying like most or something which most of the people like most which would be counting the mean, median and mode.

Thoughts

I dont think that the mathematician is correct as not all of the numbers work. (although im not sure what does it mean)

Reflection For Orientation

1. What were 3 of the highlights of the Orientation and the last 2 weeks?
3 of the highlights were the high elements, the badge ceremony and the cheer as they were all memorable moments in my SST journey.
2. What were 3 of the "low" moments of Orientation and the last 2 weeks?
They are the camp sleeping arrangements, introduction and when I did not manage to do the rope course.
3. What are 3 of my greatest takeways/lessons from the Orientation and the last 2 weeks?
I have to have determination in what I do so that I can reach my goals. I also have to be mentally ready for anything that comes my way and to be strong enough to handle the tough situations.4. What did you learn about yourself in the last 2 weeks?
I am ready for anything that comes my way if I persevere through.5. What are you looking forward in 2011?
I am looking forward to studying in SST as it has always been my dream school and I hope to do well in SST too.

Communication-Homework

1. Why is communication important? It plays a role in our everyday life.
2. What is/are your favourite forms of communication? Why? Facebook, Twitter. These platforms are the new generation.
3. How do you decide which form of communication to use in a situation? We look at the context of the situation.
4. What difficulties do you face in communicating with others? Others may not be able to understand what you are saying.

Reflection for camp

I had a lot of fun at camp and I hope to do it again. I have learnt a lot about myself and it can be put into use in SST. My favourite part of the camp was the rope course. I wish that the sleeping arrangement was better though.

Day 2: End of Day Reflection

I learnt to use Keynote today. Keynote is just like powerpoint so I was able to know more versions of the invention PowerPoint. During the Groupwork, we should give all group members an equal chance to express their ideas. We all have different opinions as everyone is unique is their own way. My class has high spirits and a lot of different ideas which I can learn from. Thus, I am happy to be a member of my class.

Day 2: Tower Building

Day 1 Mac Attack 1 - Activity 4: End-of-Day Reflection

  1. What have you done today? I used the learning device for an assignment.
  2. What have you learnt today? I learnt to use the Photo Booth Function on my learning device.
  3. Why did you choose to come to SST? It is much better to make history in a new school than to go to another school. I also enjoy the curriculum SST offers to everyone.
  4. What are your aspirations as a member of the SST family? I hope to be a good member of the SST family and do the school proud.

My favourite applications

Facebook: www.facebook.com
Twitter: www.twitter.com
Wikipedia: www.wikipeda.org
Youtube: www.youtube.com
Among all of these applications, my favourite is facebook as it has many functions and it is also the application that I am most familiar with.

While creating this blog, I gained quite a lot of experience in blogging. I think that blogging would make it easier to communicate with each other in SST.

How i felt when i received news that i have been accepted into SST

I chose this picture because it really expresses how i felt when i received the news
